LOBBY + PUBLIC
LOBBY + PUBLIC CORRIDORS
Updating a building with protected heritage elements is a unique challenge! How do you incorporate existing orange & brown quarry tile laid in an aggressive pattern? What about original works of art and exposed aggregate panels? Gently and with respect for the art crafted before ours. Being sensitive to the existing palette and with use of rich natural materials, the reception desk is a nod to the region referenced in other architectural elements in the building and the mountains to the west. Offsetting of existing angles and repetition of lines create implied movement and a dynamic piece of art in the form of a security desk meant to serve the public and new Canadians. We feel so privileged to be part of this statement piece! Stay tuned for next phases as we update the rest of the architectural finishes in the lobbies along with new public furniture.
Beyond the desk lies a complete security office and building control center fit up with gorgeous new furniture, finishes and millwork suitable for the important tasks carried out beyond. Surveillance and monitoring equipment may not be viewed, but rest assured they are there keeping everyone safe in this important and historic public building.
The public corridors took their cue from the tones in the lobby, but with an increased light reflectance and high contrast elements to provide interest and delineation of extremely long runs open travel path. Wood ceilings and linear LED lighting define the elevator lobbies. Arching wood tones create ribbed arches down the corridors, and tenant entries are defined by a warm wall covering. The third floor was the first to receive this makeover - we will be working our way through the rest soon!
